Societies and individuals represent the “other” term for the ones are not in their common circle. While specifying the dogmatic structure of the “other” term and elements of the politics, culture and geography, the time period of decaying between the identity and the others starts to form at the time of the process of development of invidividuals. The exact phase of this process becomes the “other” as a result of the thoughts and the internalisations of individual who is captured in the society’s norms while he’s discovering and giving a shape to his own lower-self. Consequently, as the “other” term differs between communities it differs for the individuals, too. The people who regret to be a part of the community and the ones who are excluded from the society are the same “other” for the system.
The people who deny to obey to the most needed criterias of the utopias of the society start fight with the innerself-other after a while. It will also be an interesting experience to record the moment of meeting of the “other” and the people who make them “other” with the help of recording the reality feature of the photography within at the exhibition’s presentation. I worked with disabled people at this project of mine in which I tried figure out the image of the meaning “the oppressed people” (Ezilenler). My aim at this project was to take attention of the situation of “being excluded from the society” with some harrassment on the audience as well.
What drove me to create this project is the living of the handicapped people which is forced down their throat because of their pyhsical disabilities. I hope the audiance to realize the pictures which are placed on the ground as most people look at the floor while walking. Moreover, my another purpose is to make the person who steps on a photograph a bit sad as with the moment of stepping on a disabled person. *”Ezilenler” has two meanings in Turkish. One of them is “the oppressed people” and the other one is “something/someone being stepped on” (Ez{mek}: verb -ilen: passive suffix -ler: plural suffix).
